For You

Let's try this again. I got the entire post typed and then clicked to add an image and all my Internet Explorer windows closed. I did a test cut last night of the triangle background found in the Wild Card book. I wasn't sure about the cut or what to use it for so I cut it using Georgia Pacific cardstock from Walmart. This stuff is great for crafting. It's acid free and SO cheap. You can get a whole package for something like $6 (I might be a little off on the price, it's still cheap whatever the price is) Anyways, once I got it cut I really liked it and ended up making a card using it. I paired it with blue and brown which is a color combo I really like. The strip and oval on the front are also cut from Wild Card, I think it's the page with the little gift boxes on it. The sentiment also comes from Wild Card but I have no idea what page. I like to take different cuts and mix it up for different cards. The inside just says Happy Birthday.

Kindergarten Scrapbook Page

Well my plans of getting a lot of crafting done have not been going so well. For some reason I have been having such a hard time to find 12x12 cricut mats. Nobody has them and believe me I have checked everywhere. Two Walmarts, a Joanns, and a Michaels later I finally found some 12x24 mats. Not what I wanted but it beats having to wait a week to have some shipped to me. I was able to get a scrapbook page done though without a mat. I love the stickers and the little t-shirt on this page. The shirt says "What happens in Kindergarten stays in Kindergarten". I have a whole list of naughty kindergartners in the back of mind that this page would be so appropriate for. I'll be selling it this year at a craft unless someone snags it up before that. I don't know where I got the stickers. I think it was at a local scrapbook store that has since closed. We seem to have that problem here in Maine, a store opens and is only around for a year or so before it closes. The few that were around for a long time have since closed. The stickers and the shirt both came from the same place. In fact the locker paper may have come from there too. I've been trying to use up some of the things in my stash and this is one of the projects. It's not often that I make something and not use the cricut at all but this page was done completely without the cricut.

February Calendar

I didn't much crafting done this weekend :( that's okay though because my plan is to get lots done over the next two weeks. Especially the week of Feb. vacation. Since I'm lucky enough to work in a school I get the added bonus of a week off in Feb. I used this weekend to get all the major house work done like cleaning the oven and fridge and shampooing the rugs so that I can use most of Feb. break for crafting. Really looking forward to that. I don't have anything new to post today but I do have the pictures for the February layout on my calendar. I think the picture for the top portion still needs something but I can't decide what so I'm leaving it as it is for now. Here are the pictures. Make sure to check back often over the next couple weeks, hopefully there will be lots of new things to post.

You Rock Valentine

I'm finally starting to feel better after battling the flu for the last few days. For today's card I made a Valentines Day one. It's my first this year and I figured I better get going since the big day is less than two weeks away. I found the black and silver paper a few months ago at AC Moore and have been saving it to make Valentines cards. It's actually a Harley Davidson paper I just cut out the corner with the logo and won't use that on any cards. The rest of the paper is just colored card stock from my stash. The ribbons were spools that I got at Walmart, no idea what brand, but they were like 99 cents each and there is a lot on each spool. The letters for "You Rock" were cut using Wild Card and the guitar came front the Everyday Paper Dolls cart. I just love the paper dolls cartridges, there are so many cuts on them that you can find one for just about any project. I pop dotted the guitar as well as the square with the words to make them stand out. I fought with the ribbon for a good five minutes before getting it right. For some reason I could not wrap my brain around the way the ribbons needed to lay. Inside I stamped "Happy Valentines Day" and put another piece of ribbon with a smaller guitar. Have a great rest of the day and thanks for looking.

Caardvark Challenge

I came across this blog today and I have to say that I really like the name of it. They're having a challenge right now to make a card using hearts and red. I made one yesterday that fits the criteria so I decided to post. I've already posted it here on my blog but to make it easier to find and since it is listed with several other projects I'm posting it again.

My Pink Stamper Challenge 2

Robin at mypinkstamper.com posted a second challenge today. Today's ch allege was to make something that was warm and springy. I made a butterfly card using designers calendar and some card stock. I made a white 6x6 side fold card and added a 5 1/2x5 1/2 piece of green and a 5x5 piece of white. The pieces or the butterfly were cut using the heart cut on designers calendar. I folded the top set of wings and adhered buttons down on top of them. The inside says "Happy Birthday". The antennae and the swoop behind the butterfly were done using stickles.

Weekend Crafts

With the weekend here I have more time to craft, which I love. After completing a card for the challenge yesterday over at My Pink Stamper I made a second card with some of the paper that was left over.

I also made a beach layout using Everyday Paper Dolls and some DCWV paper.
The last thing I made today was set of cards. My Pink Stamper has another challenge today, to make something warm or springy. I made this butterfly card in red and decided that it looked too much like a Valentines Day Card. I ended up making it in another color for the challenge but here it is in red.

My Pink Stamper Challenge

Robin over at My Pink Stamper has posted a challenge on her blog to make something using your favorite color and black. I had a bit of a hard time to decide what my favorite color is. I know what color I don't like but I pretty much like all of the other colors. I finally decided on blue, that's usually my go to color so it must be favorite right? I've never done a challenge before I guess because I always though that they would be too hard. This was so easy though. Once I chose my favorite color and found the papers the card came together so fast! It was super simple easy as well. The only cut that I made on the card was the "Celebrate" on the front. The rest were all made using my paper trimmer. Basically the entire card is made of squares, it doesn't get much easier than that. Anyways here is my card. Thank you for taking the time to look!
The black on the card is looking a little brown in the photo, that's a little disappointing. Oh well, you'll have to take my word on it being black, lol! The camera also didn't pick up the glitter. The parts on the strip that look white are actually silver glitter.

Perk Up

I just love the message inside this card. For this card I used Wild Card to cut the card and envelope. I cut both on the blackout feature so I wouldn't have all of the little cut outs like the leaf on the envelope flap. They were both cut out at 5" Then I used From My Kitchen for the coffee pot which was cut at 2 1/2. The inside says "perk up" and was cut using Wild Card. The patterned paper is DCWV and is from one of the summer time stacks, not sure of the exact name. The solid card stock is just small scraps that I had left over, not sure of the brand.

Superboy birthday card

I made two of this super boy card back a few months ago, just before Halloween I think. At first I thought I would use them as Halloween cards and then decided that they would make really cute birthday cards. To one of the cards I added the phrase "Have a super birthday" to the inside. The other one was for my aunt. We have a little thing going where we send each other numerous cards for our birthdays and holidays. We each try and out do the other with a funnier card or with one that has a better jab. On her card I put "you're super" on the front and added just the word "old" to the inside. She loved it. Here is a picture of the front. It was all done with Paper Doll Dress Up.

Wild Card Tips

I've had some questions, both here and on the cricut message board as well as from others that I know about cutting cards using the wild card cartridge. I had a hard time with this cartridge at first and judging by the message board at cricut.com a lot of others have as well. The best way to do cards/envelopes with this cart is to cut the envelope first using the fit to page button. Just before the machine starts to cut it will say something like calculating size. Take note of what size it says it's cutting at. Now that you know the size of your envelope set your size dial to that size and make sure to turn off the fit to page button. Now you can go ahead and cut your card, liners, and any of the fun little embellishments for your card. Everything should be in scale to each other. I will try and post something in the near future about the max size of the envelopes and cards for each card on the cart. If you're not using the envelopes, which some people don't because the odd sizes and shapes cost extra to mail, then you can either cut the card using the fit to page option and then make all of your other cuts at the calculated size, or you can choose a size for the card and stick with that for the liner and all embellishments. Hope this helps if anyone has any more questions please feel free to leave a comment.

Wild Card Installment #2

I love weekends, I'm able to get so much crafting done. Here is another card I made today using only the Wild Card cart this time. I made two, one in orange and one in green. I cut the envelope first using the fit to page feature and it cut at 4 1/4. I cut all the rest of things for the envelope and card at the same size. When everyone this put together though the card just barely fits in the envelope. It's REALLY tight. If you have this cart and try this card I suggest cutting your card 1/4 smaller than your envelope that way you don't have to squeeze the card in. Here are the photos.

Here's everything all cut out. I saved the negative squares when I cut the card and card liner and used them to decorate the envelope.

Here is the finished product. I didn't realize I hadn't taken pictures of the same colored card. Oh well, now you can see both colors. I prefer the green.

Enjoy!

Cupcake Birthday Card

Here is a birthday card I made today using Wild Card and From My Kitchen. The card and envelope were cut using the Wild Card and the cupcake was done with from my kitchen. I really like this card and it's super simple so it's even better. The envelope in the picture is a little torn on the edges, I have to make a new one before I use it. If you're making an envelope using thicker paper of double sided paper make sure that you score really well. I didn't hence the tearing. i played around a little with the layers on the cupcake to see which way I liked it best. I ended up using the solid frosting layer and also cutting out the highlights for it. I tried it with the part you were suppossed to use as well as the negatve part of the cut and liked it better with the negative part.

Wild Card Installment #1

I got into making cards a couple of years ago and now that is the majority of what I do. About a year and half ago Cricut came out with a Wild Card cartridge that has everything you need to make 50 cards. It's great for first time card makers or for people who have been card making for years. Each card has an envelope, an envelope liner, card and some sort of card liner, as well as frames, phrases and icons. It's so much fun and easy to use. When I first got the cartridge I remember looking through the booklet that comes with it and asking myself "what is that?" "what do I do with that" and "how the heck am I supposed to fold that?". Now that I've had the cartridge for awhile I've made most of the cards on there so I thought I would share some of them. As I post them some will be fancier than others. There are some cards on there that I won't use very often so I probably won't go into as much detail with those. There are cards for nearly every occasion you could think of. Today I made the band aid card which at first I didn't really like but once I got it together it looks really cute.

Here is a picture from the cricut book that goes with the Wild Card cartridge. I cut out the card and envelope, the liners for both, as well as the doctors bag (which I ended up not using), the phrase "Get Better" and the stethoscope.

Here's a picture of everything all cut out. I cut the card out twice because the patterned paper that I wanted for the band aid was not thick enough for the card. I cut the card out of green cardstock and the patterned paper and then just trimmed the patterned paper to fit the front of the card. I had a little trouble putting the liner into the envelope because it kept moving when I would open and close the envelope. If you're making an envelope with a liner make sure to use a lot of adhesive so the liner won't move when you open/close the envelope.

Here's the finished product. I adhered the "Get Better" phrase and the stethoscope to the inside of the card. I'm hoping to do a Wild Card post at least once a week. It may end up being less though depending on what else is going on and how many projects I'm working on at the time.

Enjoy!

2010 Calendar

My first post! It's about time. I feel like it has taken me forever to get my first post on here but I wanted to wait until I had some of my new calendar done and use that as my first post. I've been making calendars for a few years now and always give them as gifts. The problem that I seem to have with them is that by the time I finish the grids and the picture to go on top it is so thick and HEAVY that it takes 15 tacks and 73 feet of heavy duty rope to hang them. Kidding (but it's close lol). When cricut came out with a Designers Calendar cartridge I knew I just had to have it. I love, love, love my cricut and have never regretted a single cartridge that I've bought. If you don't have one, get one, you will never regret it. Okay, back to the calendar. The cricut cartridges that I own have allowed me to solve the problem of the thickness of the calendar. The problem of the calendars weight has also been helped by the cricut. I've also found a way to hang it that works GREAT. It's this hard plastic mat with a clipboard clip at the top and two small rings at the bottom. It's a just a little larger than a 12x12 piece of paper so it works perfectly. I can't remember where I got it or what company makes it but if anyone knows please feel free to leave a comment and let me know. I'd like another that I can use for the next gift calendar that I make. I have had such a good time making this calendar. It's not very often that I make something for myself. Most of the things I create are either given as gifts or sold a craft fairs so I'm super excited to be making something for myself. It has been so much work though. I sat down one day and made lists of all the cuts I had to make for each month. It took some time but ended up making things easier when it came time to start cutting. Alright, enough rambling here are the pictures.

This is the picture or top for the month of January. The cartridges that I used were Winter Woodlands, Everyday Paper Dolls (one of my favs.) and Paper Doll Dress Up.

Obviously this is the grid for January. for this I used only the Designers Calendar cart. I have a few more months done but I'll hold off on posting them. February is only a few weeks away (can you believe it?) So I won't have to wait long to post the next month.

Hope you've enjoyed!
